Aileen is Blyth’s ‘Green Revolutionary’

One of Blyth Towns most popular and dedicated Councillors, Aileen Barrass of Cowpen Ward, is gradually changing things for the better, not only for the young people she comes across as a youth worker but for the fauna and flora living cheek by jowl in the centre of Northumberland’s largest town.

Along with BlythTown and Northumberland County Councils, friends, colleagues, Blyth Rangers football team and Blyth’s youth groups she is helping to remodel an old pit heap site into Blyth’s own country park area,

Councillor Barrass said "The young people are learning all sorts of skills whilst helping on site such as woodcraft, wild plant horticulture, animal and bird identification to name but three interesting skills that will help set them up for life".

Councillor Barrass and partners are always ready to greet new volunteers who are willing to give a little time to restoring ‘Blyth’s green heart’ by attending either a Wednesday morning or Saturday morning session. The group meets at the home of Blyth Rangers, the Isabella pavilion opposite the Isabella Community Centre NE24 5JF.
